On successfully clearing the test the students can opt for MBBS/BDS courses in 780 Medical Colleges of India as of 2025.

NEET & Medical Education Scenario in Assam (2025)
Guwahati continues to be the educational hub of Northeast India, especially for competitive exam preparation such as NEET, JEE Main & Advanced, CEE (Common Entrance Examination of Assam), KVPY, NTSE, and various Olympiads. Since 2020, NEET has been the only national-level entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical programs (MBBS/BDS) in all medical colleges of India, whether government or private. The minimum qualifying marks or cut-off, however, may vary from one institution to another.
Growth of Government Medical Colleges in Assam
In 2020, Assam had 8 government medical colleges offering MBBS programs with a combined intake capacity of about 1,100 seats. These included GMCH, AMCH, SMCH, JMCH, FAAMCH, TMCH, DMCH, and LMCH.
However, between 2021 and 2025, Assam has witnessed a significant expansion in medical education infrastructure. Several new colleges have been established, along with the addition of AIIMS Guwahati and the recently launched Pragjyotishpur Medical College & Hospital in Guwahati.
Current Situation (2025)
As of 2025, Assam has 14 government medical colleges, including AIIMS Guwahati, offering MBBS courses. The total annual intake capacity has increased from 1,100 seats in 2020 to approximately 1,675 MBBS seats in 2025.
